DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – A man gave a heartfelt thank you to the first responders who gave him a second chance at life May 18.

Mack Bracken had overdosed on heroin at work, and Washington Township EMS personnel used Narcan to revive him.

Since that day, Bracken has been able to turn his life around, getting his driver’s license, volunteering at a church and helping other addicts.

He wanted to put on an event to express his gratitude to the crews, and said it wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for the first responders who showed him compassion after saving his life.

“Narcan is absolutely necessary, and there’s, I know there might be the belief that, man, these addicts only care about themselves, they don’t care about anybody else,” Bracken said, “and I hope I can be an example of a reason to keep trying at this.”

He also said he really can’t ever thank the men and women that saved him enough.
