Wright State defeats UIC


The Wright State baseball team took a step to help solidify their first place standing in the Horizon League with a 5-1 win over second place UIC Friday night at Noschwitz Stadium.

The Flames jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning but the Raiders responded with two in the bottom half of the inning, one in the seventh and iced the game with a two-run long ball by Chase Slone in the seventh.

Chase ended the game with three RBI off four hits as JD Orr picked up the other extra-base hit by the Raiders when he doubled, finishing with two hits and a stolen base. Matt Morrow, Peyton Burdick, Gabe Snyder, Zane Harris and Seth Gray had singles for the Raiders.

WSU starter Ryan Weiss was on his game Friday night as he threw eight innings, striking out 10 Flames for season highs in both categories while picking up his eighth win in 2018. Derek Hendrixson had two K's in the ninth for WSU.

The Raiders are now 30-13, 17-5 and have won at least 30 games for the fifth straight time. The Flames drop to 24-15, 11-8. The teams will meet Saturday at 2 pm on the Wright State campus.
