CANTON -- Marion Local won its 27th straight game to complete the perfect season and claim its tenth state championship. The Flyers avenged a 2015 loss to Kirtland in the state title game, beating the Hornets 34-11 Saturday at Tom Benson Hall of Fame Stadium.

"We still had that in the back of our minds," quarterback Nathan Bruns said. "Even at halftime coach told us to keep that in the back of our minds because they're never going to quit."

Bruns completed 10 of 15 passes for 178 yards and two touchdowns, both to wide receiver Nick Tangeman.

"It never really does [get old]," Tangeman said. "It's a great feeling, number ten, a nice even number and we love it.

The Flyers are now 10-2 in state championship games.
