Making the right choices for the holidays

Tweak the sweets!

- Offer healthier dessert options such as baked apples with cinnamon and a sprinkle of sugar or a festive yogurt parfait as shown here (show Holiday Yogurt Parfait made with Cheerios)

- Bake healthier by swapping out butter or oil for applesauce/bananas or reducing the amount of sugar and replacing with additional spices such as cinnamon, allspice, or nutmeg to add more flavor

Cheers to good health

- Quench your thirst with a lower calorie drink such as Kroger seltzer water with a splash of cranberry juice or use seltzer water as a mixer for a delicious cocktail (show Kroger seltzer water mixed with seltzer on display)

- You can also make traditional water fancier by using Kroger seltzer water and adding fruit and herbs for a natural sweetness (oranges and blueberries, strawberries and mint).

- Limit beverages made with sugary mixers and other sugar sweetened beverages such as soda, juice, and mixed coffee drinks

Enjoy all foods in moderation

- Choose 2-3 small portions of your favorite holiday dishes at a meal so that you do not feel deprived

- Fill the rest of your plate with lean proteins (e.g turkey, roast beef, fresh ham) and vegetables (green beans, Brussel sprouts, a salad, etc.)
