TROY, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - A second grader is showing people what it means to care by collecting donations for hurricane victims in the Virgin Islands.

Some heroes wear capes and some have a super power. Eight-year-old Zoe Wright has a special gift too, and it may be even more powerful.

"She has a heart as big as her smile," said Pastor Kima Cunningham of Richard's Chapel United Methodist Church.

Wright's heart is aimed at helping people thousands of miles away in the Virgin Islands.

"Lots of people lost their homes in the Virgin Islands because of the hurricanes," Wright said. "I felt sad because people don't care that much anymore."

Having extended family herself in the Caribbean, Wright went to work collecting donations in November. Her church, Richard's Chapel United Methodist Church in Troy stepped up too. It did a collection to raise to money for the cause. And parishioners rallied.

"People kept like throwing a 20 in and she was just like, it's a lot of money!" Cunningham said. "And it was kind of overflowing. It was the best picture ever!"

The result is a Zoe Pack. A simple bag filled with the basics like deodorant, a toothbrush, shampoo and a personal message from Zoe herself.

"I believe the world is one big family and we need to help each other," Wright said.

"She is very appreciative of where she is as an 8-year-old but knows that there are other children who don't have what she has," Cunningham said. "She wants to do something to make them feel better."

Wright is continuing to collect donations. If you'd like to help, you can bring the donations to her church:
