With God's Grace in need of volunteers to help put food on table of West Dayton families
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - With God's Grace is bracing for a busy Saturday, and they could use your help. Officials are working hard to prepare their mobile food pantry to put food on the table of families in West Dayton.
Executive Director of With God's Grace Nicole Adkins said there's a lot of preparation that goes in to feeding 4,000 families each month, particularly in West Dayton.
"There is a food insecurity for the ones that can't get to the grocery store, but there's also the ones that don't have the money to be able to buy groceries," Adkins said.
That need is why she said they set up their mobile food pantry on 101 Drexel Avenue in West Dayton every second Saturday of the month.
"We're seeing more families coming in, more families relying on us monthly to be there," Adkins said.
With God's Grace could use about 40 extra pairs of hands to help pass out the food to those families, particularly when it comes to loading the food in people's cars.
"We give out a lot of food," Adkins said. "It's not just a little bit, so there's a lot for them to carry and they can't do it on their own."
In addition to pasta and non-perishable items, the pantry will be passing out donations from The Foodbank.
"They are going to basically give enough food for their families to have three to four meals to be able to enjoy with their families," Adkins said.
That means that With God's Grace could also use some hands to help package the goods.
Anyone is welcome at any time to help with distributions. If you'd like to help out this week, be at the Drexel Church of the Nazarene by noon. The mobile food pantry runs from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
