Westerville hardware store gives away 200 blue light bulbs to honor slain officers

Roush Hardware staff gave out roughly 200 blue light bulbs in a matter of minutes Tuesday morning after Westerville residents lined up to get an item many are using to honor two slain police officers.

More than 40 people were waiting with the store on East State Street opened at 7 a.m.

The blue bulbs were offered for free, and the store's supply was gone in about 15 minutes.

Workers took names and phone numbers to call customers when a new shipment arrived, which was expected to be as early as Tuesday.

Home Depot was preparing to giveaway 650 blue lights at the Maxtown Road location starting at 1 p.m., according to store managers.

Lowes was handing out light 500 bulbs at the Westerville Police Department late Tuesday morning as well, managers said.
