DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - All week long the Christ Episcopal Church in Dayton will host its 88th annual Waffle Shop. Each year, the fundraising event attracts between 1,600 and 2,000 people who come to enjoy waffles, sausages, sandwiches, soups, and baked goods all for a good cause. All profits are given to a number of nonprofit organizations, such as Blue Star Mothers.

Waffle Shop began in 1929 and there have only been three years the event was canceled, one of which was because of rationing during World War II.

This will be John Paddock’s 18th year with the event and he says his favorite part is the welcome the church provides to the community. “I think it’s great to celebrate everybody in downtown who comes together.”

The event also features a rummage sale called Elsie’s Attic that features all kinds of donated items, from hats to stuffed animals to jewelry.

WHERE: 20 West First Street, Dayton (Christ Episcopal Church)
