DAYTON, Ohio, (WKEF-WRGT)- The first snow fall of the season in the Miami Valley looks picturesque, driving in it is a different story
“I think it’s beautiful, but I think people want to be cautious of it, said AAA senior specialist Kara Hitchens.
Hitchens said all drivers in snowy weather must do 3 things.
“First of all, slow down the road conditions will really warrant that you need to slow down. You really don’t need to be traveling so quickly. Also, leave room make space between you and the car in front of you. And as you break and turn you want to do that,” Hitchens said.
Accidents and spin outs have been littering the roads throughout the day, which triple AAA’s road rescue responders confirm assisting 2-hundred motorist since midnight.
Hitchens added, “We also know since Tuesday since the cold snap there’s been over 1,700 motorist that have needed help throughout the area.
Every driver on the road has different levels of experience to be cautious of. For some, this is their first time.
“The main roads are pretty clear, but I’m pretty new to this I’m from Florida," said Mike Lynch. “Just moved here a few months ago so this is the first experience.”
AAA recommends packing a snow kit for your car filled with items like phone chargers, snacks, flash lights, and a blanket.
“Also make sure you have plenty of gas in your car,” Hinches added. “If you do find yourself stuck on the side of the road. You will be able to run your vehicle just a little bit. “
In Montgomery County ODOT crews are tirelessly working keep the roads clear, but as temperatures freeze overnight into early Sunday morning people need to check church and other various activity cancellations.
