Schuster Center comes alive with The Sound of Music

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Dayton is alive with The Sound of Music.

The musical production is now playing at the Schuster Performing Arts Center.

The beloved musical production tells the story of Maria and the von Trapp family. The new stage production adds modern elements here and there, but the message is the same from the 1965 movie that many know and love.

You'll find new songs and old songs from the movie version, including “Climb Ev’ry Mountain” and the ever so popular, “Do-Re-Mi.”

"You see people get really excited as soon as those kids get out on stage they do the work for us,” says Production Stage Manager, Jess Gouker. “They really do and they sort of work really hard to do that story and to make it feel like they're learning to sing every night."

One of the ensemble members is from Hamilton, Ohio. Despite the movie coming out more than 50 years ago, the story continues to draw audiences from different generations.

"Maybe you saw it on Broadway, maybe your young son or daughter was in the show in high school, maybe you were even in the show in high school, but I think a lot of people know this story and the movie obviously had such an impact on our modern culture," says Gary Minyard of the Victoria Theatre Association

The productions runs through Sunday.
