UPDATE: Officials said a person was killed in a crash on 741 that happened when another driver was trying to get out of the way of a chase.
A driver of a black Chrysler reportedly saw the chase coming behind their vehicle on 741 and tried to get over, but hit the back of a white Hyundai. That vehicle was then spun out, and was hit on the passenger's side by a Moraine officer's cruiser.
That driver was taken to the hospital, but has died from the injuries. The Montgomery County Coroner has identified her as Mary Taulbee.
MIAMI TWP, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Officials are investigating two crashes along State Route 741 that reportedly happened as part of a pursuit.
The chase began around 6:30 p.m., when Moraine officers spotted a stolen back Jeep out of Harrison Township and went to make a traffic stop on it, but the driver took off. Officers followed the vehicle along the state route, when a Moraine cruiser was involved in a crash with an innocent driver near the intersection of Carnation Road. Rachel Whitefield, a witness to the crash, said she then ran up to check on the person who was in the other car involved in the crash, saying that she "did not look good at all", before heading over to check on the cop as well. So far, condition for the people involved in that crash have not been made available.
Crews continued to pursue the vehicle down near the Dayton Mall, before the suspects crashed and rolled over near the Grismer location on the road. It's not clear if anyone was injured in that crash, but at least one person was taken into custody.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers said they will be investigating the Carnation crash, and Moraine will handle the investigation for the primary chase and the crash at the mall.
