DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) Levitt Pavilion was alive with the sound of its first summer concert series Thursday evening.

Hundreds packed the Downtown Dayton music venue for opening night.

Free concerts at Levitt Pavilion is the newest thing to come downtown Dayton.

"People are welcome to come on down and have a great time,” said Levitt Foundation Executive Director, Sharon Yazowski.

It was clear some of the biggest music fans had a great time.

“Being outside it’s so perfect, it’s so perfect here,” said Centerville Resident, Eleanore Cross who attended opening night.

Cross said the outdoor venue is just the venue Dayton needed so you could dance like everyone is watching.

“I was a rock and roller, I mean I did the jitter bug for years, I was a real dancer,” said Cross.

People brought their food, their friends, and their appetite for all kinds of music.

“I think year one I’ll try a little bit of everything and from there I’ll decide my favorites,” said Dayton Resident, AJ Ferguson.

Latin pop singer Gina Chavez was center stage Thursday evening, but this summer you can enjoy everything from Jazz to Country to R&B.

A signature element to Levitt Pavilion is the open lawn seating which means.

"There’s no fixed seating, so you can easily interact with the people in front of you, in back of you, and to the side of you," said Yazowski.

It’s that communal environment that will draw in people like Eleanore Cross for an encore.

“It’s just so open and and warm and friendly, how could you not get caught up in this?” said Cross.

Levitt Pavilion will host 50 live free concerts next summer. All concerts are family friendly.
