KETTERING, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - The City of Kettering is ready to select a consultant for the Ridgeway Road Bridge replacement project.
Officials announced on Friday that they had received a $2 million grant to replace the bridge through the Ohio Department of Transportation's Municipal Bridge Program. On Monday, the city council unanimously adopted a resolution that would allow the city manager to select an engineering design service consultant for the bridge using competitive bargaining and negotiated quotes.
Construction is scheduled to begin in late 2020 or early 2021 on the replacement bridge, to make it accessible for pedestrian, bikes and cars. Originally competed in 1965, the bridge was expected to serve for 50 years and was rehabilitated in 2005.
The original plan was to tear the bridge down or not allow pedestrian access, but the community rallied together, and it will be made available to all modes of traffic.
