Kettering Police investigating after remains found in home by woman checking on her father
KETTERING, Ohio (WRGT/WKEF) — Kettering Police are investigating a home after remains are found inside, but it’s how they were found that is confusing neighbors.
The skeleton was found by a relative who was coming to check on the home owner, only to stumble upon the remains.
“I would say this is out of the normal, yes,” Kettering Police Captain Daniel Gangwer said.
The woman called dispatchers, and told 911 that she was from New York. She came to check on her ill elderly father, but admitted she barely knew her dad. She told dispatchers that her father’s caretaker locks all the outside doors. When she and her husband knocked on the door, no one answered. Police say the pair went around the exterior of the house, and looked through a window.
“When I open the window and my husband sees a skeleton we are now like what the hell,” the daughter told 911.
She said the couple was in the home earlier in the day, but the door to the room with the remains was locked.
So far, investigators do not know who the remains are.
One neighbor told FOX 45 he would smell a foul odor wafting from the home on occasion. He assumed it was still water stuck inside the gutter.
Another neighbor said he got a call from his children when they heard about the skeleton.
“Probably been twenty years since the last time I’ve seen him,” Ralph Haines said of the elderly home owner. “In fact I have knocked on the door several times when I knew he was there, it he never answered the door.”
“When you find a dead body in your house does a person get arrested,” the home owner’s daughter blurted out to dispatchers.
The woman did tel dispatchers during the 911 call that her 82-year-old father was very ill, and he was transported to the hospital.
Police are only releasing limited information at this time, but did say the body has been in the home for some time.
