K-9 Karson announces retirement from Wilmington Police Department
WILMINGTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - A police K-9 who captured the hearts of people across the Miami Valley is retiring from the line of duty.
Karson, who worked with the Wilmington Police Department, went missing just a few days before Christmas in 2014. Karson's disappearance sparked a nearly two-month search. Police received calls and pictures from people who thought they'd seen the K9, but it wasn't until February when Karson was spotted.
A Facebook page dedicated to K-9 Karson now has more than 30,000 followers and it's a place where the community can follow along with what he's up to. Late Monday night, December 10, an update was posted saying Karson enjoyed his work, but is retiring.
"...in my heart I love just being a normal dog with no stress. Dad and I are taking new paths in our lives. Our focus has changed to family life and spending more time together. We are confident that there are others that will stand in our place and continue the good fight, but for us the time has come to move on to new adventures."
The page went on to thank those who have supported the officer over the years.
