It's a boy! Mom delivers baby on the way to hospital on I-75
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - When Carlos and Juliana Macedo's first baby was born, they barely made it to the hospital in time. So when Juliana started experiencing contractions around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, Carlos thought this time they'd make sure to be at the hospital with plenty of time to spare.
Their baby, however, had other plans.
An hour after her contractions started, Juliana started timing them through an app. After talking with the hospital and making arrangements for their son, Gabriel to be dropped off with family friends, Carlos checked the app and saw the contractions were between 3 and 4 minutes apart. He looked at his wife and said, "Okay, I think we need to go - like - right now."
After dropping their son off, Carlos and Juliana made their way to the hospital. But baby Daniel didn't want to wait. "She goes, 'okay, okay, it's happening, it's happening,'" Carlos recalled, as he sat next to his wife in their hospital room. While getting onto I-75, he said Juliana laid her seat back and started unbuckling her seat belt, "and I'm like 'please, put your seat belt on!'" Carlos said.
He thought they'd make it, but with less than two miles away from the hospital, right there on the highway, little Daniel decided it was time to join his family. As Carlos told his wife to relax and breathe she replied, "no, no, I have to push right now." Carlos stopped their car along the side of the road and got out, "By the time I opened the door, she had already caught the baby midway and put it into her chest and he started crying. And I was just floored. I couldn't believe it."
Less than 24 hours after their son was born, the proud parents couldn't be happier, "We couldn't ask for more, he came just perfect."
