DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - A 23-year-old Harrison Township man has been sentenced to six years in prison for seriously injuring his infant son.

In June of 2018, deputies responded to Dayton Children's Hospital after the 8-week-old baby was taken to the hospital. The baby was completely unresponsive and had multiple skull fractures and other serious injuries.

Investigators later determined Hopeton Taylor, 23, was home alone with the baby when the injuries occurred. The baby's mother found her son unresponsive when she returned home and took him to the hospital.

Taylor was found guilty on February 28, 2019 on charges of felonious assault and endangering children. The state also said it reserves the right to pursue additional charges against Taylor if the victim dies from his injuries.

"It is unthinkable that a parent would cause such injuries to his or her own child. This defendant critically injured his own baby son. Parents are supposed to care for and protect their children. This defendant did neither," said Montgomery County Prosecutor Mat Heck.
