DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) A single flower and a few balloons were all that's left at a makeshift memorial Tuesday afternoon.

"Just at 7 o'clock this morning, everything was here," Steve Grimes told Fox 45's Shavon Anderson.

For the third time in a few days, the Grimes family arrived at the 700 block of S. Smithville Rd. to see their hard work gone.

"Who does that type of stuff, man?" Grimes said.

His nephew, 20-year-old Logan, was struck and killed while walking along the sidewalk last week. Relatives initially put a small memorial up, only to have it continuously disappear.

"This is where me and my family come to talk to Logan,” he said “This is the spot where everything happened."

Yesterday, the family once again replaced the keepsakes, and were ready to do the same today. Then, a tip came from a stranger, who drove by the site Tuesday morning and saw a woman come out of a house on the same block.

"She came out here, and we saw her take one of the teddy bears,” said Marissa Woodworth. "My dad was going to stop and say something, but there was just so much traffic."

Woodworth was on the way to an appointment.

"We drove back by, and everything was gone."

At least for now, there’s a possible ID for the person responsible, but it only adds to more news. Yesterday, police said a woman turned herself in for the hit-and-run, but she was released today without charges.

"That's not fair,” Grimes said. “That's not fair to my family. That's not justice."

The prosecutor’s office told Fox 45 that police are waiting on results from an ongoing investigation, including evidence from the scene. Grimes was also told to wait for the autopsy.

"They said it would take 10-12 weeks for the autopsy because they're so far back down there,” he said.

The Grimes family said Logan‘s funeral is set for later this week. They’re asking whoever is taking the items to at least leave them be, until then.
