Clearcreek Twp. police sergeant who died unexpectedly remembered as "true family man"
CLEARCREEK TOWNSHIP, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - The Clearcreek Township Police department is in mourning after one of its officers died unexpectedly in his home over the weekend.
Funeral arrangements for Sgt. Larry Cornett have been set for later this week at Crossview Christian Church. A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the church on Social Row Road in Waynesville. A funeral service will be held the following day at the church at 10:00 a.m.
Sgt. Cornett is remembered as a "true family man," who leaves behind his wife and two sons. Cornett was involved in several charities including Special Olympics Ohio, Caesar Creek Polar Plunge and Southwest Ohio for the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
Cornett, 43, began his career with Clearcreek Township Police in 1998 as a part-time officer. A year later he became a full-time officer and was promoted to the rank of sergeant in 2008. "Larry was known by his coworkers as an officer who worked diligently to protect victims, especially children," the department released in a statement, "He will be greatly missed."
