Teen suspect in Richmond middle school shooting identified; mother called 911
RICHMOND, Ind. (WKEF/WRGT) - Students were not in class Friday morning at Dennis Intermediate School in Richmond after police say an armed teen shot his way into the building Thursday and ultimately took his own life.
On Friday the Wayne County Coroner's Office identified the teen as Brandon Clegg, 14, of Richmond, and the preliminary autopsy results show the manner of death was a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Before Clegg arrived at the school on northwest 7th Street Thursday morning, police were ready for him, thanks to a tip called in letting officers know something was going to happen. Police credit the tip with saving other students' lives.
State Police onfirmed that the 911 call made that let them know about the danger was made by the suspect's mother.
A motive for the incident has not yet been released.
Dennis Intermediate will remain closed on Monday, December 17, as the investigation continues.
Richmond Community School has scheduled a media update on Friday afternoon.
