DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - The thrill of winning a football game on live television is exciting for anyone, but for Chaminade-Julienne's starting quarterback, the best part of the night was after the game.
Ryan Minor played his heart out while on the gridiron, not knowing his number one fan was in the stands, cheering him on the whole time.
His father Christopher had been deployed in Turkey since December. He's an active duty officer with the U.S. Air Force who played football when he was younger, but he said not to the level of Ryan.
Ryan, who is in his junior year, was named FOX 45 player of the game. He headed home with the win and with his inspiration.
“It was very heartwarming. I had no idea he was here," Ryan said, "and I’m glad he got to witness a good game.”
“It was rough," Christopher said to his son, "being in the stands, trying to hide from you, but we made it and we couldn't have done it without the team.”
It wasn't just a good game for Ryan, but a great one, as he threw 4 touchdown passes in the first half.
Christopher will be home with his family for 3 weeks, and during that time he said he's looking forward to relaxing and watching some Family Feud.
