Beavercreek Battle of the Badges blood drive is back

BEAVERCREEK, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Get ready for a friendly showdown between Beavercreek first responders.

Beavercreek Police and the Beavercreek Township Fire Department are diving into a friendly competition to raise awareness for the need for donations for the local blood bank.

The departments are joining forces with the Peace Lutheran Church Blood Drive.

Donors can decide who takes home the win by casting their vote for their favorite public safety department.

Beavercreek Police won the most votes last year after back to back losses to the Township Fire Department the first two years. The Beavercreek Township Fire Department is looking to take back the title this year.

Officials say there is a great need for blood donations at the end of summer.

"With school back in session, everybody's lives are getting very busy so we encourage those to plan ahead if you can, make an appointment if you can and hope to see you at the battle of the badge blood drive here in Beavercreek," says Sgt. Michael Hummel.

Community support for the Battle of the Badges blood drive has grown each year. Last year the event drew more than 125 total donors.

You can stop by and donate from 3-7 p.m. at the Peace Lutheran Church:
