KETTERING, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – Kettering Medical Center has unveiled its new labor and delivery rooms to the community.
The hospital hosted a family-friendly Baby Fair from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 24.
The fair included a tour of its newly renovated labor and delivery rooms. Brenda Pearson, clinical nurse manager for labor and delivery, said the remodeled rooms have a spa-like atmosphere with stone walls, rain showers and labor tubs.
“Relaxing is a big part of laboring,” said Pearson. “When you’re tense, sometimes that can inhibit the dilatation and labor. I think relaxing will help promote labor progress.”
Pearson said Kettering Medical Center already provides nitrous oxide for pain management, which has been a popular natural labor option since its inception in July.
“More natural options for people is what we’re promoting,” continued Pearson.
Future parents had the opportunity to learn about pregnancy planning, what to anticipate during pregnancy, what to expect after the baby is born and to sign up for childbirth classes. The fair also touched on car seat safety and provided a safe sleep demonstration.
The fair also included giveaways, food, prizes, quizzes and entertainment.
