MIAMI VALLEY, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - The official numbers are not in yet from a winter storm that slammed the Miami Valley Friday night, but AAA has been busy helping drivers fight through it.

They said that since midnight, crews responded to help out 400 motorists in our area.

While experts recommend staying off the roads due to the weather, AAA said that if you do head out, make sure your tires have enough air in them to face the cold, ensure that your battery has enough power and have a cold weather emergency kit on hand in your car.

You should keep an extra coat, gloves, hat and blankets in your emergency kit, as well as an extra charger for your phone and a flare or flashlight so you can be seen by other drivers. It's also a good idea to carry a hovel, ice scraper and de-icer, as well as some kind of abrasive material if you need to create traction with your tires.

At any point during the winter, if you need your car checked on, you can visit a AAA Tire & Auto location for a free preventative maintenance inspection.
