COLD CASE: Sister pleads for help after brother's shooting death

(WRGT) - "I knew him as a fun kid. Big, bright eyed,” said Chrishanda Hinton as she reminisces all the good times she spent with her baby brother.

April 1, 2009 is one day Chrishanda wishes she could forget.

That’s the day 19 year old Chris Hinton was shot and killed outside of a Dayton cell phone store.

"When we pulled up to the Cricket store, at that moment life just changed," she said.

Chrishanda said Chris was having a problem with his cell phone so she went with him to the store at North Main and Seibenthaler to get it fixed. As Chris was walking in, he was met by a group of guys and words were exchanged.

"I went to step out of the vehicle to kind of see what was going on, but by the time I got out of the truck it was too late, the shooting had started,” remembers Chrishanda.

Chris was hit and later died at Good Samaritan Hospital. Immediately after the shooting, homicide detectives talked with witnesses.

"A lot of people were around at the time,” said Cold Case Detective Patty Tackett. “There is a video store right next door, people were there. There were customers inside the Cricket store. The muffler shop across the street, there were people there."

Now, Detective Tackett needs to find them once again.

"What we are looking to do is recreate that day and to locate all of these witnesses, because we are very close to prosecuting this case,” she said.

Justice that Chrishanda says has been a long time coming and would give her the closure she's been waiting for all these years.

"If you know anything, anything, the slightest bit of information, is good information,” she said. “I hate that this is what it has come to and that other families have had to go through what I went through since. I wouldn't wish this on anyone, not my worst enemy. I wouldn't wish this on the man who took my brother from me," she said.

If you have any information that could help catch Chris Hinton’s killer, call Crime Stoppers at 222-STOP or Detective Patty Tackett at 333-7109.
