You Can See Mumford and Sons For Free

TROY -- Tickets sold out months ago to see Mumford & Sons who are coming right here to the Miami Valley.

"They are a huge band," said Brandon Cook of Troy. "They were blowing up all over the place. I know it's a big thing for Troy and a lot of people are stoked."

The Grammy-award-winning Mumford & Sons will bring 30,000-40,000 people to Troy in the last weekend in August. The three-day festival culminates with the English folk rock band Saturday night, but Cook, a big fan, doesn't have a ticket.

"The tickets are really expensive, around $100, and they just sold out that day that they went online," he said.

Come Labor Day weekend the entire Troy Memorial Stadium and the surrounding fields will be packed. In fact, 25,000 Mumford & Sons tickets sold out in about three hours in February, but there still is one way for you to watch the show; however you will have to work for it.

"I have already been working a number of hours a week and I'm planning to take the whole week off before the show because I know we will be pretty busy that whole week to make sure the set up is taking place," said Volunteer Coordinator Will Harrelson.

Harrelson will be working the show free of charge and will be looking for another 1,000 people to join him. At this point it may be the only way to get to see the show, and you won't have to pay the $109 ticket.

"We are looking for about 1,000 right now," said Harrelson. "They will be split up in different groups; everything from pouring beer with beer vendors to staffing campgrounds to taking tickets, checking IDs, just general security and well-being of the visitors. It's going to be more enjoyable to work this event and help bring it here and be able to say you helped to bring Mumford & Sons to Troy, Ohio, rather than just to see the show on its own."

So Cook may get to see the show after all.

"I think it would be a great opportunity to be a part of something really big that is coming to Troy and definitely see one of my favorite bands that is blowing up all over the place here," said Cook.

If you would like to volunteer, send an email to Mumfordvolunteers@gmail.com

Folks can also come to the non-headliner portion of the music festival for just $5.
