Wright State men turn attention to Horizon League Touranment

The Wright State men’s basketball team will host first-place Valparaiso Friday at 7:30 pm and UIC Sunday at 2 pm.

Wright State: The Raiders, 19-10 and 10-6, fell at Northern Kentucky 83-76. WSU was led by Mark Alstork’s 24 points and Grant Benzinger’s 20 points. Alstork is now 22 points from 1,000 as he set a new school mark with 163 free throws made.

Alstork continues to lead the Raiders with 18.8 points per game while Davis is at a 14.9 clip. Justin Mitchell is at 11.3 points and 8.4 rebounds. Benzinger is averaging 12.3 points per game and 5.7 rebounds.

Last Game: The Raiders broke a four-game winning streak with the loss at NKU. Besides the scoring by Alstork and Benzinger, Davis added 13 points. Alstork added eight rebounds and five assists as Mitchell grabbed six boards. WSU hit 17 of 18 from the lines, posting only 11 turnovers.

Series: Wright State trails 16-13 against Valpo after WSU lost on the road 70-55 on January 27. WSU leads 28-27 in the UIC series after an 88-86 win at UIC on January 29.

Valparaiso: The Crusaders, 23-6 and 13-3, have won four of the last six games and two straight over Detroit Mercy and Milwaukee. Senior Alec Peters leads the way at 23.0 points and 10.1 rebounds a game. Shane Hammink has been averaging better than 15 points a contest.

UIC: The Flames, 14-15 and 7-9, has won three of the last six games but lost the two in a row to Oakland and Green Bay. UIC has been without leading scorer Dikembe Dixson who was hurt in the 10th game of the season. Tai Odiase has been leading the Flames with an 11.4 points and 7.4 rebounds averages. Three others average in double figure scoring.
