Centerville tops arch-rival Wayne 39-22
HUBER HEIGHTS -- Centerville (6-0) defeated arch-rival Wayne (4-2) 39-22 to remain undefeated.
Centerville opened the scoring on a 24 yard touchdown pass from Alec Grandin to Donovan Shelton.
Ross Harmon then scored on a three yard run to put the Elks up 14-0.
The Warriors quickly answered as Rashad McKee hit Laurenz Johnson for a 44 yard touchdown doing most of the damage after the catch.
Brandon Walters kicked a 27 yard field goal to lift Centerville to a 17-7 lead.
Wayne answered almost immediately when McKee found L'Christian 'Blue' Smith wide open down the sideline for an 83 yard touchdown, but the failed point after made it 17-13.
Garrett Russell kicked a 25 yard field goal to end the half and make it 17-16 at the break.
In the third quarter Grandin hit Jake Spiewak on a quick wide receiver screen which the senior took 20 yards for a touchdown and a 24-16 lead.
McKee hit Austin Mullins on a 40 yard touchdown but the two point try failed and Wayne remained down 24-22.
In the fourth quarter Dom Ramsey and Riley Poulton got in the backfield to block a field goal try which Ross Garrett returned for a touchdown and a game changing score to put Centerville up 31-22.
Shelton scored on a 24 yard touchdown run with 6:28 remaining. Grandin scored on the ground for the two point try to lift Centerville to a 39-22 win.
Grandin completed 17 of 27 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns. Shelton did most of the damage catching 8 passes for 146 yards and a score.
Rashad McKee threw for 381 yards, rushing for 72 more.
Smith caught five passes for 163 yards and a touchdown while Steven Victoria caught a game-high 10 passes for 77 yards and Mullins hauled in 7 passes for 86 yards.
