UD considered underdogs heading into first round matchup with Wichita State
INDIANAPOLIS (WKEF/WRGT) – Despite the University of Dayton Flyers heading into the NCAA Tournament as a 7 seed, pitted against a 10 seed in Wichita State, the Flyers are playing the role of underdog in their first round matchup.
Vegas has the Shockers coming out on top at the end of the game, and ESPN’s online bracket challenge has over 70 percent of the brackets with Wichita State advancing instead of UD.
“We never notice,” Flyers Forward Kendall Pollard said. “You see what we do in the tournament. With the exception of last year, I’m pretty sure we’ve been counted out every game and we’ve won about five or six games in this tournament.”
“You know, just being in the NCAA Tournament gives us a chip on our shoulder, and it’s 68 good teams in this tournament,” guard Scoochie Smith said. “We had to get picked to play against one, and unfortunately it was Wichita State.”
“What I try to tell my teammates is not pay any attention,” guard Kyle Davis said. “People around the world going to talk about us, doubt us. That’s what people do. We just gotta go out and show the world that we don’t care what they say. We’re going to shock the world and do what we do every night and that’s play hard.”
The Flyers and Shockers will face off on the court beginning at 7:10 p.m. March 17.
