Centerville native Mike Nugent gets another shot at the NFL
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (WKEF/WRGT) - Centerville native, Mike Nugent is getting another shot at the NFL.
The New York Giants announced they signed Nugent to the team today. Nugent is a 13-year veteran of the NFL, playing for the New York Jets, Tampa Bay, Arizona and the Cincinnati Bengals. Nugent signed with the Bengals in 2010 as a free agent and set a franchise record for field goals and points the following season. The Bengals ended up releasing Nugent in December of 2016.
Nugent will have to compete with Aldrick Rosas for the job of the Giants' kicker. Rosas has never played in regular-season game but was the only kicker on the team's roster.
The former Centerville Elk went on to play at Ohio State where he set 22 school records.
