Alter grad Simmons named 1st team All-MAC

CLEVELAND -- Redshirt junior guard Jaaron Simmons (Alter grad) has been named a 2017 First Team All-Mid-American Conference selection.

Simmons picked up First Team All-MAC honors after receiving Second Team recognition in 2016. He becomes the second Bobcat to garner first team all-league honors under third-year head coach Saul Phillips after forward Antonio Campbell (Cincinnati, Ohio) did so in 2016. Carter earned a spot on All-MAC Freshman Team a year after Dartis represented the Bobcats on the squad.

Simmons, who has started all 29 games this year, has led Ohio in assists in 27 contests in 2016-17. The Preseason All-MAC East Division selection is averaging 6.7 assists per game (195 assists) which currently ranks sixth in the nation. His 195 assists this year are the seventh-most in a single season in program history.

In addition to leading Ohio in assists, Simmons also leads the team in scoring (15.3 points per game; 443 points) in addition to ranking first in field goals made per game (5.4; 156 field goal made) and field goals attempted per game (12.7; 369 field goals attempted). Simmons also leads the Bobcats in free throws made per game (3.3; 97 free throws made) and free throws attempted per game (4.6 per game; 132 free throws attempted per game). He has finished in double figures in scoring a team-high 25 times this year.

In conference play, Simmons averaged a team-high 17.2 points per game (310 points) and 6.1 assists per game (110 assists). He shot 44.8 percent (108-of-241) from the field in league games and finished in double figures in points in 16 of 18 games.
