Victim's mom speaks about alleged sex abuse by former city of Dayton worker
UPDATE: Shawn Bailey is now facing three counts of unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, among other charges.
He was indicted on the charges Thursday.
HARRISON TWP, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - A former Dayton city employee is currently behind bars, accused of having unlawful sexual contact with a minor.
Shawn Bailey's Facebook page said he was an athletics coach, and a city newsletter said he was a parks and rec aide while he worked for the city.
He was arrested at Belmont High School last week, allegedly picking up the victim. The boy's mom, who we're calling "Mary", told FOX 45's Rhonda Moore how she found out about the case.
"I checked my son's cell phone, came across some messages between him and a guy," said "Mary."
"The conversation between him and my son was one that people would have if they were in a relationship," she continued.
A couple of weeks ago, "Mary" made the discovery.
"I went through his email and that's when I found out he had been seeing this guy like a year," "Mary" said. "This guy was picking him up at school, he was buying him things."
Mary called the police.
"They were able to catch him going to pick him up from school and my son, he didn't deny it," she said.
She said her son met Bailey online, not in his role as a coach. Still, she is worried there may be other victims.
"You are supposed to be a mentor, a coach, somebody like that," "Mary" said. "Not trying to be these kids' lover and taking advantage of them."
The case has gotten a lot of comments on Facebook. Some said they'd heard things before.
"Nobody tried to do anything about it," "Mary" said. "Everybody kept saying, 'Oh, yeah, I've heard that about him before. Yeah, Coach Flip, he mess with little boys.' I hope he gets what he deserves."
"Mary" showed FOX 45 some of the text messages Bailey allegedly sent her son.
She hoped if there are other victims, they come forward.
The sheriff's office said right now they only have the one complaint against Bailey.
