PIKE COUNTY, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) -- Authorities have issued a safety alert in Pike and neighboring counties after investigators revealed details that deputies gathered in drug-related investigations in recent weeks.

Pike County Sheriff Charles Reader named two gangs that are allegedly headed to the area this weekend to "take out" suspected snitches and spread "HOTSHOTS" of heavily-laced heroin in the area. Investigators fear such an act could cause "an extremely large amount of overdoses" in the region.

The two gangs cited were MS-13 (an international gang that originated in Los Angeles in the '80s) and Konvicted Family (a gang based out of Columbus).

The sheriff said all the info released is from "very limited intelligence" deputies have gathered in recent investigations.
