UPDATE: Miami Co. homicide suspect charged with murder
UPDATE – A suspect has been charged with murder after the homicide of his wife.
Samantha S. Freels, age 52 of Union Township, was found dead in her car after Miami County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene of a crash Friday afternoon.
According to a press release from Sheriff Dave Duchak from the Miami County Sheriff’s office, a preliminary autopsy shows that Mrs. Freels died from a gunshot wound to her chest.
Officials believe she was shot while in her car.
A pick-up truck registered to Mrs. Freels and her husband, Randy A. Freels, age 57, also from Union Township, was later found unoccupied near the crash site.
During their ongoing investigation, deputies learned that Mr. Freels told a third party that “he expected to be in some type of shoot-out with law enforcement,” and that Freels had a large number of firearms at his house.
A special response team and the Piqua and Troy Police Departments surrounded the Freels' residence were able to take Freels into custody without any incident.
Along with murder, Freels is being charged with inducing panic and fleeing the scene of a crash.
WEST MILTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - One person was killed in a single-car crash in West Milton Friday afternoon.
Officials told FOX 45's Nathan Edwards the driver drove off State Route 55 into a nearby creek, but conditions are making the investigation difficult.
