Neighbors jump into action after 2 children shot in Dayton home
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Neighbors jumped into action after hearing gun shots at a home on Lori Sue.
Some ran to the house; others called 911.
Neighbors said hearing gun shots is not out of the ordinary in their neighborhood, but May 18, 2017, is a day they won't forget.
It was an emotional scene as relatives rushed to the home on Lori Sue just after 10 a.m.
"I heard a gun shot boom," Latrice, who doesn't want her last name used, said.
Then she heard two more. She went outside, and looked up the street to see her neighbor.
"She had like a bath robe on her and it was full of blood," said Latrice.
The woman walked up the street toward her neighbor.
"As I'm walking up the street, she's carrying her kids out, like dragging her kids out and putting them in the yard," Latrice said. "So when I had seen her come to the end of her driveway, she was holding her baby's foot and dropped it and walked back to the house, I looked and said that's a child."
"Did you say anything to her?" FOX 45's Rhonda Moore asked.
"No um um, she had a gun, I didn't have nothing to say to her," said Latrice.
Another neighbor came outside.
"And I ran outside and she just bought the little girl, laid her down, she's completely nude and was just walking in circles A and I looked at the babies and they did not look good," said a neighbor who didn't want to be identified.
She said the mother, Claudina Helton, was just staring.
"No blinking, zoned out and when I went to put on the blanket, she just stood there," the un identified neighbor said.
Other neighbors are upset by what happened to the children.
"I was devastated, as a mother your heart is going to go out, you know what I'm saying, as a mother you can't ever do that to your child," said neighbor Deona Terry.
"For those kids to think they were going to have a fun summer, don't no kids think their mommy would do that. Knowing your mommy is your monster, hyour mommy is the one that's going to attack you," said Terry.
You just got to pray for the family , for strength, and for them to get through this cause it's sad, it's very sad," said Latrice.
All the neighbors we talked to say they didn't see this coming.
They say Claudina Helton kept to herself but seemed to be a good mother, Her kids were clean, often seen playing in the yard and happy.
Her oldest child, an 11-year-old girl was home at the time but not hurt.
