Inmate found dead at Preble County Jail less than 7 hours after being booked

EATON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - An inmate was found dead at the Preble County Jail less than 7 hours after he was booked in as an inmate.

Eaton Police had arrested 53-year-old Jack Eaton for heroin possession, possession of drug abuse instruments and possession of drug paraphernalia, and brought him him to the jail just before 10:30 Saturday night.

He was put in his cell around 1:30 a.m. and checked on overnight, where staff reportedly found no unusual circumstances. During breakfast serving Sunday morning around 5:30 a.m., he was found unresponsive in his bunk.

Eaton was pronounced dead at the scene by responding crews.

The Montgomery County Coroner's Office will perform an autopsy Monday, according to a media release, to try to determine official cause of death The detective section of the Sheriff's Office will continue to investigate the incident.
