Huber Heights FD gets new gear to help protect firefighters from carcinogens
HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – The Huber Heights Fire Department now has a new tool to help protect firefighters.
Thanks to a $10,000 grant, every firefighter will have a special hood that is designed to help protect them from carcinogens.
FOX 45 first told you about the cancer danger firefighters face in 2016, and how Ohio law now provides benefits for firefighters if they get cancer from the carcinogens and other chemicals they encounter on the job.
“It definitely gives us more peace of mind and comfort,” Travis Diltz told FOX 45 in 2016. “Every little bit helps for us in our field of work.”
All firefighters will also receive special wipes to help decontaminate themselves after fighting a fire.
