Girl Scouts of Western Ohio says they remain committed to all-girl environment
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – Despite an announcement from the Boy Scouts that girls will be able to join some programs and become Eagle Scouts, Girl Scouts of Western Ohio said they remain committed to only serving girls.
In a press release, they said they are committed to and strongly believe in “the importance of the all-girl, girl-led and girl-friendly environment that Girl Scouts provides”.
They said thousands of girls each year earn their Gold Award, the highest award in the organization, by transforming an idea and vision for change.
The release also said in part, “Girl Scouts is, and will remain, the scouting program that truly benefits U.S. girls by providing a safe space for them to learn and lead”.
The Girl Scouts of the USA criticized the initiative by the Boy Scouts earlier Wednesday, saying it strained the century-old bond between the two organizations.
