Fox 45 Exclusive: former Alfred Angelo employee furious
MIAMISBURG, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Alex Pacifico is setting the record straight.
"We were cussed out by some people at the store, we've been yelled at," she told Fox 45's Shavon Anderson. "I understand that they're mad. I'm mad too. I lost my job, but be mad at corporate, don't be mad at us."
The now former sales associate said things got suspicious at the Miamisburg location a few weeks ago, when huge sales came out of nowhere.
"They say it's going to be 50 percent off the whole store," she said.
Then, the store stopped taking special orders, and all the seamstresses were fired. Pacifico said managers continued to deny the retail store was headed downhill.
"We asked them at that point are we closing," Pacifico said.
Employees didn't get any word, until a phone call Thursday morning.
"Lock the doors, don't answer the phones, just leave and go home."
Employees and brides were stunned. Many made the trip to the Miamisburg store looking for answers. Meanwhile, miles away in Middletown, Beverly Micomonaco eyed her inventory at Memories Bridal.
"It's bad, it's sad really," the shop's owner said. "Because it is the most important day of a girl's life."
The family-owned shop is doing everything they can, by offering deep discounts to Alfred Angelo customers. That includes up to 50 percent off on floor gowns, even sale gowns. They're offering 20 percent off gowns to be ordered, with no rush fee, and 30 percent off bridesmaids.
"Close to 500 dresses that can be ordered, or bought of the rack," Micomonaco said. "Another 600 to 700 sale samples."
The Alfred Angelo corporation filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy. Documents revealed the company had more than $10 million in assets, with more than an estimated $50 million in liabilities.
"Your brick and mortar stores are having a hard time competing with internet," Micomonaco said.
Brides are now getting cheap alternatives from from outside the United States.
"Well, they'll order it from them, and get it from them, so that leaves us in the area out of luck."
Pacifico is still angry at the company for misleading customers.
"They knew at that point that anyone that ordered that night would not be getting their items in," she said.
