FAIRBORN, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Fairborn officials have identified the man taken in for questioning related to the shooting death of a hotel clerk.

Michael Mclendon, 24, is being held on a probation violation according to police.

He is being questioned, but has not been charged for the fatal shooting of 29-year-old Andrew Day Wednesday evening.

FOX 45's cameras were rolling as Mclendon was taken into Fairborn Police custody at the Eagle Ridge apartments in Dayton Friday afternoon.

Day was working as a clerk at the Hampton Inn off North Fairfield Road and Colonel Glenn Highway.

Day's wife Brittany spoke only with FOX 45 the day after the shooting.

"I don't know why anybody would do that to anybody. He was working, trying to pay his bills like everybody else," Brittany Day said.

Hotel guests who called 911 said they found Day shot, bleeding, lying behind the lobby desk.

At the Hampton Inn Friday night, new security guards were walking the premises, they told FOX 45 they were hired following the shooting.

"This is the first I've heard of anything like this in this area, but it's a shame, you know crazy people everywhere these days," said Chris Berner.

Berner said he shops in the plaza next to the hotel a few times a week.

"I actually recommended a hotel for my parents to stay in in a couple months," Berner said, adding that Wednesday's shooting isn't normal for the Colonel Glenn Highway area shopping center.

"I'll kind of keep more of an eye out now, normally I'm here running around hectic and not really paying attention but I guess I'll pay more attention now."

FOX 45 looked in Michael Mclendon's past.

He had a cocaine possession charge dismissed in 2011, but was convicted of aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon in 2012.

Police sources said there were multiple suspects involved with the hotel shooting, and there may be more people brought in.

No one at the Hampton Inn wanted to talk to FOX 45 about the kind of person their coworker Andrew Day was, but we have reached out to the hotel chain for a statement.

Day's wife said he leaves behind a six year old daughter.

Fairborn police were keeping tight-lipped about the investigation as of Friday night, but said they expect to release more information on Monday.
