Detectives looking for AK-47 gunman in Dayton
WALL OF JUSTICE: Law enforcement is asking for your help finding suspects in a double shooting that occurred on Third and Gettysburg streets, in which one of the victims was fatally shot.
Tashawna Gaines and her boyfriend, James Jones, were shot Aug. 17, 2016.
“When they were stopped at Third and Gettysburg, a dark-colored sedan was pulled up next to them and a passenger in that sedan opened fire with an AK-47,” Montgomery County Sheriff’s Detective Brad Daugherty.
Gaines was shot and killed. Her boyfriend was paralyzed from his injuries in the shooting.
Detectives don't know much about the suspects but do believe they know the car they were driving.
"We do know there was two vehicles kind of following each other that was also following the victim's vehicle," Daugherty said.
The shooting happened on a busy corner in Dayton.
"We believe that there's people out there that knows who did this and we just ask that the public come forward with any information so we can give this family some closure," Daugherty said.
Detectives say the suspects should be considered armed and dangerous.
"Anybody that's going to just roll up next to a car and no matter who else is inside and just open fire with AK-47 knowing that potential for injuries is very likely," Daugherty said. "We want him off the street. He's a danger to society and we want him in custody as soon as possible."
