Dayton PD to wear mourning bands in honor of fallen Westerville officers
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Dayton Police are showing their support for Westerville Police officers killed in the line of duty over the weekend.
The department tweeted that it will wear mourning bands on their badges until after Officers Eric Joering and Anthony Morelli are laid to rest
Joering, 39, and Morelli, 54, were both longtime members of the Westerville Police Department. They were shot and killed Saturday after responding to a 911 hang-up call from Cross Wind Drive. Quentin Smith, the suspect in the fatal shooting was charged Sunday with two counts of aggravated murder.
People lined the streets Monday as the bodies of Joering and Morelli were taken from the Franklin County Coroner's office to two separate funeral homes in Westerville. Governor Kasich ordered flags across the state to be flown at half-staff through the officers' internment.
