Community Blood Center seeks donations during holiday season
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Help save lives this holiday season.
The Community Blood Center in Dayton seeks your help to meet the community's needs.
Summer and the holidays are always a challenging time of year for blood centers, but it's often when they need your donations the most.
Blood donations typically fall around the holidays due to the cold weather and people on vacation. The center encourages you to make an appointment to donate and can always use more donors with O negative blood type.
“At the moment, we’re also very interested in AB platelets because those are the universal platelet donors,” says Mark Pompilio, Public Relations and Marketing Associate for the Community Blood Center.
January is National Blood Donor Month.
Right now the legislature is looking at a bill that would make the whole month of January Ohio Blood Donor Awareness Month to raise awareness about the need for donations within the state.
"Representative Stephen Huffman, Tipp City, Miami County area, he is a lifelong blood donor, doctor, big advocate for blood donations, and it was his idea to maybe look for an idea to raise awareness," says Pompilio.
The Community Blood Center is open Monday through Saturday if you want to donate.
