Preble, Montgomery counties in top five counties of most seized heroin by OSP
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Two counties in the Miami Valley ranked in the top five of heroin seizures by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
According to a report just released by OSP, Preble County had the highest number of heroin seizures in 2016, Montgomery was number four. Franklin, Madison and Summit counties were the remaining in the top five counties. According to the 2016 Crime Analysis Report that has been released by OSP, those counties made up more 77.4% of the heroin that was seized in the the state in 2016.
Across the state, OSP says troopers seized more than four-thousand pounds of cocaine, crack, heroin, methamphetamine and marijuana in 2016. The largest heroin seizure was nearly 60 pounds, the report doesn't state where that seizure took place. Also during 2016, OSP reports that troopers seized 87,333 pills, a nearly 70% increase in the number of pills that were seized in 2015 and the largest number of pills in the past five years. Troopers say the pills seized included opiate pills such as Percoset, Oxycodone, Vicodin/Hydrocodone.
