DOG BEACH WEAR
LOS ANGELES (AP) -- From bikinis to Hawaiian shirts -- it's time to gear up for the beach. For your dog. Pet owners have plenty of choices for pooches whose fur isn't fashionable enough for beach wear. Tommy Bahama Pets offers a Hawaiian shirt and a dress with a ruffled skirt. Designer John Bartlett makes a canine beach tank top. And Martha Stewart Inc. produces a life jacket. Veterinarians have some practical advice for beach-going pooches and their owners. Doggies can get sunburned on skin that isn't fur-covered, so be careful and use sunscreen. Also bring plenty of fresh water for your four-legged friend to drink and an umbrella for shade.
PREGNANT DOLPHINS
CHICAGO (AP) -- These moms-to-be are being monitored for their body temperature -- and blubber thickness. Three dolphins are pregnant at the Brookfield Zoo in Chicago. Zoo officials expect to hear the splash of little flippers this summer and fall. Chicago Zoological Society veterinarian Jennifer Langam says prenatal care for the dolphins is similar to that for human moms. The pregnant bottlenose dolphins will be getting ultrasound exams and blood tests.
OCEAN WINE AGING
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- The wine was in the drink -- for aging. A California winery sank four cases of Cabernet Sauvignon to the bottom of Charleston Harbor in South Carolina for three months. This week, divers recovered the wine. Jim "Bear" Dyke Junior of Charleston owns the Mira Winery. He says the wine will be analyzed to determine the effect of ocean aging, which is also done on the West Coast and Europe. The winery plans to sink more wine in the harbor later this summer.
HORN HONKING TICKET
DELAND, Fla. (AP) -- Michael Lambert didn't want a warning from a police officer -- he wanted a ticket. And he got it. Lambert was cited for "impolitely" honking his horn at an unmarked police car that didn't go when a traffic signal turned green. Lambert is a central Florida attorney. The officer didn't show up in court for a hearing on the ticket and now Lambert wants a judge to order the detective to appear. Lambert tells the Daytona Beach News-Journal the officer should have "the intestinal constitution to stand before the court."
